How Coaching Differs from Therapy

While coaching and therapy both offer support through emotional challenges, they serve distinct purposes.

Therapy often looks to the past—to heal trauma, diagnose mental health conditions, or navigate acute emotional distress. Therapists are licensed professionals trained to treat disorders such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, or addiction. Therapy is essential when mental health stabilization or deep trauma processing is the priority.

Coaching, by contrast, focuses on the present and future. It’s about recognizing patterns, reconnecting to your inner knowing, and building a more empowered relationship with your life and choices. Coaching assumes you are already whole—not broken. It supports you in moving forward, not through clinical intervention, but through somatic awareness, relational insight, and practical guidance.

Real-world distinction:
A woman struggling with daily panic attacks would be best supported by a trauma-informed therapist.
A woman feeling stuck in a role that no longer fits, longing for reconnection to her purpose and voice, might thrive in coaching.

And while coaching is not therapy, it can complement it. Many clients choose to work with both—a therapist for healing the past, and a coach for stepping into what’s next.

These modules serve as the foundation for your 1-on-1 sessions. Each session draws from this curriculum while adapting to your current reality, pace, and needs.

Here’s what you can expect:

"A Day In The Life" Insights

Case Example:  From Overwhelm to Rhythmic Living

A client juggling a demanding career and solo caregiving came to coaching utterly depleted. She believed she needed better time management—but what emerged was something deeper.

During somatic check-ins, she noticed her chest would tighten every time she agreed to one more task or favor. Underneath the tension was an old, unquestioned belief: “If I don’t do it all, I’m failing.” It was a story inherited from generations of women who equated exhaustion with value.

Together, we explored that belief—where it came from, how it had served her, and how it now kept her in cycles of burnout. She began practicing “pause-and-scan” techniques, not just to manage time, but to rebuild her relationship with worth and rest.

She shifted from scheduling around obligation to honoring her energy rhythms. She blocked out non-negotiable recovery windows, communicated her needs more clearly at work and home, and—most importantly—started telling herself a new story: “Rest is not earned. It’s essential.”

Within two months, she reported fewer emotional crashes, more ease in parenting, and a renewed connection to joy: “I didn’t just get more done. I finally felt like myself doing it.”

Case Example:  From Survival Mode to Self-Reclamation

After leaving a long-term relationship with a narcissistic partner, a client came to coaching emotionally raw and disoriented. Her days were filled with self-doubt, people-pleasing habits, and guilt around even the smallest boundaries.

Somatic check-ins revealed a tightening in her stomach every time she considered saying “no.” But it wasn’t just her body—we explored the deep-seated belief underneath: “If I don’t make others happy, I’m not worthy of love.”

Together, we unpacked where that story originated and how it had been reinforced over time. As she practiced “self-attunement before action,” she also began rewriting that belief: “My needs are not a threat to connection.”

Over several weeks, she noticed her capacity grow. She started responding—rather than reacting—in co-parenting conversations, made space for rest without guilt, and began making choices that felt true. “I don’t have to overperform to be safe,” she shared. “I can lead with presence.”

Case Example:  From Inherited Patterns to Conscious Parenting

A mother of two came to coaching haunted by a fear: “What if I become my mother?” Raised by a narcissistic parent who weaponized shame and withheld affection, she struggled to trust her instincts—especially when her children showed strong emotion.

Early sessions revealed her body would freeze during moments of intensity. We used somatic awareness to build capacity—but also explored a long-standing belief she had internalized: “If I don’t control it, everything will fall apart.”

With gentle inquiry, she began to question the truth of that belief. Through relational repair tools and “inner child” practices, she cultivated a new internal narrative: “My presence, not my perfection, is what creates safety.”

As she released old scripts, she became more spacious in conflict, more attuned to her kids, and more forgiving of herself. “I’m no longer parenting from a place of fear or overcompensation,” she said. “I’m showing up grounded, imperfect—and real.”
